V for Vendetta was so goddamned good!
I had never read the graphic novel so to be perfectly honest I had no idea what I was going into or why it *should* have been so good. I will also disclaim here that having not ever read the graphic novel I have no idea how it was like or dislike the original intent. But I will tell you that regardless of that, the movie as a standalone was BRILLIANT.
It was playing at the Imax so we HAD to go. And let me say it KICKED ASS on the Imax. I'm sure it's kickass on the regular screen, but DAMN~! I am in love. It is my new favorite. It should be yours too.
IN LOVE!

Wasn't it just the bee's knees? I loved it too. I've seen it twice and I'd kind of like to see it again.
The graphic novel was _very_ different. The biggest change is that the screenplay was updated to fit current politics. The original, written in the mid-80s and set in the late 90s, was post-apocalyptic. England had removed all nuclear weapons and was thus spared a holocaust. However, most of the world was lost, including the US, all of Europe and all of Africa. The ecological ramifications caused chaos and famine. Out of this rose the Norsefire regime, which in the graphic novel bared a much stronger resemblance to the Nazis.
The other major change was the removal of the super computer "Fate." Most aspects of the government were named in relation to this. The BTN in the movie was the Mouth of Fate in the book. Louis Prothero was the Voice of Fate. The thug policemen, "Fingermen" in both the movie and book, were part of the Hand of Fate.
Despite the many differences, the overall theme and feel of the graphic novel is completely unchanged. I'm a fan of the original and I'm very pleased with the changes. After all, a story about nuclear paranoia isn't quite so resonant today.
Believe it or not; Mr. Movie gave it an A+ rating and there was a letter to the editor about how good it was in the local paper.
OH HELL YES!!!! It's my new favorite also. I talked about it all weekend. My movie buddy, Zak and I are going to see it again Saturday. I should've guessed Joe would want to see it again, so I guess we should find a sitter now.
I'll come watch Miles. He seems like a cute kid.
