A couple came into the tasting room tonight. They look very mismatched and confused to boot. She was dressed to the nines. Him, casual college boy button up and a baseball cap. They both looked a little terrified. A couple moments of confusion and some nervous laughter later and they decided to try the Malbec (my favorite of our reds...) and preceded to sit down at a cafe table and begin a chat....
Moments later I hear out and out laughter. They were definately enjoying each other's company, that's for sure. But there wasn't any touching, hand holding or leaning- in that I usually see with couples that come into the tasting room. I began to imagine (and embellish) the story behind these two:
First date? How did they meet? They are such an unusual pair, would their friends have set them up? She seemed like the flower on the wall type who's still just slightly in high school about fashion and what to wear on a date. He seemed like he had it together but very nervous and I wondered if his accent hinted at a slight language barrier. Late 20's, still single. hmm.. Did they meet online? Was this the first "Real Time" meeting? What brought them together? Are they secretly star wars fans? or do they both love online gaming? Or was it simply that they are lonely and make each other laugh?
Whatever it was, they seemed to be having fun, and far be it from me to scoff at that. I hope I see them again in a couple of months and they are "together" this time and I can come up with more creative story lines behind their lives.........

I don't remember a Cinncinnatti (my that looks long) baseball player named Malbec...
That's because it's a Wine. Not a baseball player...........
Ah, Cincinnatti Reds.......yeah I got it. you have to be more obvious Anonymous...I'm slow on the uptake.
I love the idea of story lines for other people's lives. Although I guess we do that everytime we judge someone across a room that we don't even know. Assuming "wrongs done" etc. But I liked your musings on the couple in the wine tasting room. It sounds like it could be turned into a play. Start writing Theatre Girl!
Thanks Mom,
But seriously I took a playwriting class in college, Bombed it.
