I feel like I'm in office space.
Turns out the conference call was all about how they are bringing in an "outside vendor" to "collaborate" with our training department. At that time they are going to "evaluate our efficiency" and then come up with a "strategic plan".
One of the plans they'd like to implement is to "decrease reliance on instructor led training".
Do all of you know what I do for a living?
I'm an instructor, and I lead training.
I"m trying really hard to stay calm at the moment. I will fully admit that I am sometimes prone to melodrama and I think i'm doing pretty damn well right now, but I am a little nervous. Nothing would happen for almost a year anyway I'm sure.......but waiting SUCKS.
So anyway, I think the Ulcer is gone (not like it was even there anyway, only in my head) but we shall see what the next year has in store for me. I might as well milk my 401K for all it's worth right? No need for anything drastic.

The Two Bobs are really nice guys though.
Lovin the Bobs reference. Big Business totally loses perspective of how they got to be BIG in the first place...it's all the little people working their asses off! Cripes.
Well, well look. I already told you: I deal with the god damn customers so the engineers don't have to! I have people skills! I am good at dealing with people! Can't you understand that?! What the hell is wrong with you people?!?
Pisser. Good luck with your layoffs. :-/
Well, it's not even layoffs yet. It's just the preliminary steps. and there is a slight chance (yeah right) that they will just cut back training and we'll be corporate again and have one or two groups for the whole nation. We'll see....
Keep your eyes open, but keep you job close too.
Why don't you just talk to your manager? Tell them how you feel and ask them what may come of things. Then - in accordance to their answer, either start looking for a new job, or keep working hard at your current one.
Just some advice to keep you sane, and Ulcer-free.
Nice...when I found out about the elimination of my position, it was originally from a friend from another store. When I went to my manager about it there was a look of surprise like, "How in the fuck do you know that?" I think I'm more irritated by how I found out. At least they are keeping you posted.
Remind me to tell you my 'corporate consolidation' story. I was called off vacation for my meeting.
